About the event
Railroads played a key role in the 1863 Gettysburg Campaign. The first battle of the campaign was fought near a train depot, Brandy Station, on the Orange & Alexandria Railroad. Much of the third day's fighting at Second Winchester was along the tracks of the Winchester & Potomac RR. The Confederates twice raided the B&O RR at Martinsburg and Point of Rocks. CSA troops wrecked three regional railroads in southern Pennsylvania right before the Battle of Gettysburg. Other railroads provided key routes to transport supplies to Gettysburg and take wounded men and Confederate prisoners away from the area for processing. Award-winning author Scott Mingus will discuss the 15 different railroads that were involved in the campaign.Award-winning author Scott Mingus will discuss the 15 different railroads that were involved in the campaign.
