About the event

Historian Henry Roper will present the story of the 27th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the infamous Gettysburg Campaign of 1863. After the majority of the unit was captured at Chancellorsville in May, the 75 men of the 27th went from the frying pan into the fire, being thrust into the deadly plot of land now known as "The Wheatfield". Their high casualty rate and large number of monuments in this one small area tell a harrowing account of these men, who were nearing the end of their 9-month enlistments.
