About Me

I'm a teacher, author and historian residing in Gettysburg, where I have lived for more than 30 years. For 17 years I served as Director of Planning and Historic Preservation for the Borough of Gettysburg, where, among many other accomplishments, I directed the restoration of the Gettysburg Railroad Station (built 1858) and served as the Borough's principal liaison to the National Park Service Project team that planned the exhibits and restoration of the historic David Wills House--where President Abraham Lincoln completed the Gettysburg Address. A native of the Connecticut Valley, I've had a lifelong interest in Connecticut's role in the Civil War, which has resulted in several publications, including editing (with the late Charles Hamblen) "Connecticut Yankees at Gettysburg" (Kent State University Press, 1993), an article on Major Edward F. Blake of the 5th Connecticut (in the now defunct Connecticut Historical Society Bulletin, Spring 1983), an essay on Connecticut born Civil War composer Henry Clay Work, and more. I have a large private collection of Civil War sheet music, especially that of Henry Clay Work, and maintain a fairly large collection of materials related to the career of Connecticut's War Governor William A. Buckingham. I enjoy opportunities to lecture on Connecticut's role in various aspects of the conflict..
